Safe Plate and Coffee With a Cop Day

Boroondara Neighbourhood Watch and State Emergency Services members spent four hours on Saturday, 14 Match, putting one-way screws on number plates for members of the public to minimise the risk of thieves stealing them. The event took place in the car park beside Inglesby Road, Camberwell, opposite the council offices.
You might believe it won't happen to you but there are lots of people who have made that comment and if you ask your friends you will almost certainly find at least one person who has had their number plates stolen. It really does happen more frequently than you think. Don’t let it happen to you too.
It takes only take a few minutes, it’s free and you can also have the opportunity of Coffee with a Cop. Members of the Boroondara Crime Prevention Office joined us so it was a great opportunity to speak with them if something is bothering you or you need some information.
Remember that if your number plates are stolen you must:

• complete a police report

• advise Vicroads and provide them with the police report, order new plates and pay for them

• advise your insurance company

• advise all other organisations that require your number plate details

• contest infringement notices you might receive if your stolen plates are used in a criminal office such as a drive off, burglary or drug offence.
It doesn’t look much if you have to replace your number plates but from a time perspective it is a real hassle. We will be having a second Safe Plate and Coffee With a Cop Day later in the year.

Other Activities

We have temporarily halted activities due to the coronavirus situation. Watch these pages for more news later in the year. We like to keep busy so we will be advertising a variety of events that you can take part in. They will include leaflet drops, where we deliver advice from police to residents in crime hotspots on ways to safeguard your home and your possessions, distribution of safety awareness material at community festivals (as at the recent Ashburton and Glenferrie festivals), and similar crime-prevention activities in support of Boroondara police.
Please join us and help keep our neighbourhood here in Boroondara a safe and enjoyable place in which to work and live. See our Home page for contact details of our chairperson and our police community liaison officer.
